Service - Activity Center/ Effingham
Effingham County has a lovely place for senior citizens to gather and enjoy each other`s company as well as participate in many activities, receive needed services, receive valuable information from staff and guest speakers, and come to have a good time.

With assistance from the Minnie Kluthe Estate, Jack Graham, and many other anonymous donors, the Effingham County Committee on Aging is able to provide a facility the area seniors can be proud of. Offering daily activities, educational opportunities, support groups, one day trips, crafts, painting, quilting, card games, bingo, line dancing, birthday parties, nursing home parties, insurance counseling, circuit breaker and senior care filing, potlucks, and seasonal parties. The Activity Center also publishes a monthly newsletter titled "Sunset Times". This is a free newsletter available to area residents. The Activity Center was incorporated in 1977 with the current building established in 1980. Since then, the center and its employees have worked hard to serve area seniors and offer enjoyable activities for all.

The board of directors and employees of ECCOA are strong advocates for the senior population and their cause. Keeping abreast of proposed state and federal legislation that will impact seniors, the senior center educates the county`s seniors about political changes. The agency and activity staff have provided both written and oral testimony at both state and federal capitols on behalf of seniors. All Effingham County senior citizens are invited to the the Effingham Activity Center. The Center is open Monday thru Friday, 8-4. The facility is located at 209 S Merchant, next to Martin`s IGA in Effingham. If you need any more information, please contact us at 347-5569.
